Wound Awareness Week focuses on skin protection and early care
Wound Awareness Week, running from 28 September to 4 October, is focusing on the theme ‘SOS: Save Our Skin’ to emphasize the importance of skin protection and early wound recognition. The campaign, led by Wounds Australia, aims to highlight the impact of chronic wounds, which affect hundreds of thousands of Australians and can lead to significant pain, limited mobility, and avoidable hospitalizations.
To support professional development, the ‘Lunch Bytes’ series offers free daily lunchtime webinars for health professionals. These sessions feature experts discussing topics such as patient empowerment in wound care, protecting vulnerable skin surrounding wounds, and the role of skin protection in wound prevention. Participants attending live sessions can receive certificates of attendance.
Healthcare providers, including Northern Health, are also utilizing the week to share consumer experiences. These stories highlight how specialized care for conditions like neuropathic foot ulcers can improve independence and quality of life, while underscoring the necessity of seeking medical support as early as possible.
