Wout van Aert clinches Tour of Denmark win, targets Vuelta and World Championships

Belgian cyclist Wout van Aert secured the overall victory in the 2026 Tour of Denmark, winning three of the five stages and retaining the leader’s jersey despite a chaotic final sprint. The triumph follows an earlier season setback when an infected elbow forced him to abandon the Tour de France.

Van Aert said he would have preferred to race the Tour de France but accepted the change in plans, adding that the Danish race restored confidence for the autumn campaign. He confirmed his focus now shifts to the Vuelta a España, which starts on 22 August in Monaco, and to the World Championships in Montreal later in September, where he will line up alongside fellow Belgian Remco Evenepoel. He also noted that rivals Tadej Pogačar and Evenepoel are strong competitors, but he believes he has a chance if he reaches peak condition.

The victory marks van Aert’s second overall win in the Danish race and provides momentum heading into the final part of the season.
