Wout van Aert wins shortened Vuelta a España stage in Córdoba
Wout van Aert secured his second stage victory of the 2026 Vuelta a España during Stage 15 in Córdoba. Due to extreme heat in southern Spain with temperatures approaching 40°C, organizers reduced the original 189.7-kilometer route to 110.2 kilometers to protect rider safety. Van Aert, riding for Visma | Lease a Bike, won the sprint from a five-man breakaway, finishing ahead of Alessandro Romele and Thibau Nys.
In the general classification, Enric Mas maintained his lead in the red jersey, holding a two-minute and six-second advantage over Felix Gall, with Primoz Roglic in third place.
Following the second rest day, the race continues with Stage 16, a 181.1-kilometer route from Cortegana to La Rábida. Matthew Brennan of Visma | Lease a Bike has also seen success in the race, claiming victory in Stage 16 after a lead-out from Van Aert.
