Netherlands national team announces Nations League squad under Xavi

New Netherlands national team head coach Xavi Hernández has announced his 26-man squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Germany, Serbia, and Greece. The selection features several changes, including the debut of Feyenoord midfielder Gjivai Zechiël.

Due to injuries to Justin Kluivert and Donyell Malen, Xavi has called up PSV midfielder Guus Til and AZ attacker Mexx Meerdink as replacements. Notably, veteran striker Wout Weghorst was omitted from the squad. Weghorst expressed that he was not surprised by the decision and remains available for future call-ups, stating, “I will never refuse. It is the greatest pride to play for your country.”

Other notable absences include Memphis Depay. Meanwhile, the KNVB has faced criticism from analyst Hans Kraay Jr. for deciding to keep most training sessions closed to the public during this international period, which Kraay described as a “huge missed opportunity” for supporters.
