Blizzard prepares World of Warcraft: Forever launch with racial tuning and name reservations

Blizzard Entertainment is finalizing preparations for the November 4 launch of World of Warcraft: Forever. Ahead of the release, developers have announced significant adjustments to racial abilities to prioritize racial identity and combat roles. Notable changes include doubling the maximum movement speed bonus for Tauren via Plainsrunning and rebalancing traits for Humans, Dwarves, Orcs, and the new Skyborne race.

To manage the high volume of players, Blizzard has opened a character name reservation window from October 27 to November 3, 2026. This feature is available to players who purchased specific editions, such as the Skyborne Heroic or Epic Packs and the Warcraft Forever Collection. The system introduces a unique two-part naming convention (first and last name) to ensure uniqueness across the region.

Regarding long-term content, principal game designer Kris Zierhut indicated that the game will follow a slower update cadence of approximately every four months, rather than the aggressive eight-week cycle seen in modern WoW. While the game will primarily focus on the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor, future updates may include brief excursions to expansion locations like Northrend or Pandaria.
