WPIAL high school football season kicks off with Upper St. Clair vs. Mt. Lebanon

The 2026 high school football season begins with a major rivalry matchup as Upper St. Clair hosts Mt. Lebanon on August 28. The game, known as the ‘Battle of the South Hills,’ features two storied WPIAL programs. Upper St. Clair is led by head coach Mike Junko, while Mt. Lebanon enters its first year under head coach Bruce Fronk.

In addition to the marquee rivalry, the Trib HSSN will provide extensive coverage of the opening week, including video and audio for more than 20 WPIAL and District 6 games. The network’s programming includes the WPIAL Pregame Show, the WPIAL Football Scoreboard Show, and the Rebel Yell podcast series.
