WPS Office and Yandex expand office software capabilities

WPS Office has introduced WPS Mobile 2.0 for Android, featuring open interfaces designed to integrate third-party applications directly into documents. This update allows for seamless data flow, such as embedding calendar information into active files without manual copying. The software suite's preview version, V8.0, also expands real-time collaboration tools, including cloud storage, document translation, and integrated discussion functions for file sharing.

In partnership with Kingsoft PowerWord, a local instant translation feature has been added to the mobile version. This tool operates directly on the device to avoid the transmission of personal data. Meanwhile, Yandex is entering the desktop market with its own dedicated clients for “Dokumente,” focusing on DOCX and XLSX editing capabilities.

While these updates aim to create more modular workflows, some users have raised concerns regarding the security of the new open interfaces, as well as potential issues with translation accuracy and version compatibility following internal library updates.
