WRC faces uncertainty ahead of 2027 technical regulation changes

The World Rally Championship (WRC) faces uncertainty regarding its transition to new technical regulations scheduled for 2027. While the championship has seen a change in ownership at WRC Promoter GmbH to help stabilize its future, the development of the new WRC27 cars and Rally2 Kit components remains unclear.

Currently, Toyota GAZOO Racing is the only manufacturer confirmed to be working on a WRC27 vehicle. Other independent constructors, including Project Rally One and WRT Rally1 Spain by RMC Motorsport, are part of the group expected to be attracted by the new rules. In the Rally2 category, only M-Sport has announced plans to develop a specific package to remain competitive against the upcoming WRC27 models.

The regulatory shift is also creating instability in the driver market. French driver Adrien Fourmaux, currently with Hyundai, expressed uncertainty about his future in the top category. Fourmaux stated his goal is to return to Rally1 competition but noted that Toyota appears to have more drivers than available seats, leaving his professional path for the upcoming seasons undecided.
