WrestleMania III Intercontinental Championship belt sets auction record
A WWF Intercontinental Championship belt used during the 1980s has sold for a record-breaking $716,750 at Heritage Auctions. The sale, finalized on October 24, includes a 22 percent buyer’s premium on a winning bid of $587,500.
The belt is historically significant for its association with WrestleMania III, where Ricky Steamboat defeated Randy Savage for the title on March 29, 1987. Used between 1985 and 1988, the championship was held by several WWE Hall of Famers, including Tito Santana, Randy Savage, Ricky Steamboat, and The Honky Tonk Man.
This sale establishes a new auction record for a wrestling championship belt, surpassing the previous record of $414,800 set by Hulk Hogan’s WrestleMania 2 championship belt. The overall record for wrestling memorabilia remains held by Hogan’s WrestleMania I boots, which sold for $1,037,000 earlier this year. Former owner Conrad Thompson, who acquired the belt through a trade with Vince McMahon in 2020, celebrated the record-breaking result on social media.
