Wrexham AFC signs goalkeeper Anthony Patterson in club-record deal
Wrexham AFC has completed the signing of goalkeeper Anthony Patterson from Sunderland on a four-year deal. The transfer represents a club record for the Welsh side, with an initial fee reported to be approximately £8 million ($10.8 million), surpassing the previous record of £7.5 million paid for Nathan Broadhead.
Patterson, 26, previously served as Sunderland’s primary goalkeeper during their promotion to the Premier League before a recent loan spell at Millwall. Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson expressed satisfaction with the acquisition, noting Patterson’s experience at the Championship level.
This move marks Wrexham’s third major signing of the summer window, following the arrivals of Danny Imray and Ben Whiteman. Patterson stated that the club’s recent trajectory makes it a “perfect fit” for his career ambitions.
