Wrexham AFC targets Premier League promotion through strategic squad upgrades

Wrexham AFC owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are focusing on incremental squad improvements as the club pursues promotion to the Premier League. Following a historic third successive promotion that brought the club into the Championship, Wrexham narrowly missed the play-offs last season by just two points and one position.

Reynolds described the current phase of the club's development as a home renovation project, stating, “This episode is about making the kitchen work better rather than doing a whole house renovation.” This strategy follows a period of significant investment, including the highest net spend among the 24 Championship clubs last summer. Recent recruitment has focused on quality, with several signings bringing Premier League experience or international status, including goalkeeper Anthony Patterson, defender Danny Imray, and midfielder Ben Whiteman.

Beyond the pitch, the club is investing in infrastructure at the Racecourse Ground to increase capacity. The Hollywood-backed project continues to see significant commercial growth and global interest, highlighted by a recent pre-season tour in the United States that drew over 40,000 fans to Yankee Stadium.
