Wrexham Council warns of risks from climbing street lighting

Wrexham Council has issued a warning to residents regarding the safety risks and infrastructure damage caused by climbing street lighting columns to attach items. The local authority noted that such actions can damage lighting equipment, obstruct essential maintenance, and potentially compromise the structural integrity of the columns.

The council expressed particular concern over the use of ladders to access street lighting. They highlighted that working at height without proper training or equipment poses significant risks of serious injury from falls, especially on uneven ground or near traffic. Additionally, the presence of electrical equipment within the columns presents a risk of serious injury to anyone attempting to access fittings or open column doors.

As the highway authority, the council stated it has a legal responsibility to maintain safe public infrastructure. Residents wishing to attach items to council-owned street furniture are required to contact the highway authority for permission in advance.
