Wrexham faces scrutiny over poor Championship start and spending
Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson is urging his squad to avoid a historical trend where teams finishing seventh in the Championship struggle the following season. After achieving a club-record seventh-place finish last year, the Red Dragons currently sit 17th in the table with 14 points from 12 matches.
The club is facing pressure due to a recent 1–0 loss to Sheffield United and questions regarding its record summer recruitment. Despite a club-record outlay, including the signing of goalkeeper Anthony Patterson and midfielder Callum O’Hare, the team has struggled with offensive production and defensive stability.
Compounding these on-field issues, the English Football League has fined Wrexham £75,000, with £25,000 suspended, following two breaches regarding player eligibility involving Issa Kabore and Callum O'Hare.
