Wrexham fined £75,000 for fielding ineligible players
Wrexham has been fined £75,000 by the English Football League (EFL) following disciplinary proceedings regarding the use of two ineligible players during the current season. Of the total fine, £25,000 has been suspended.
The breaches involved summer signings Issa Kaboré and Callum O’Hare. Kaboré was used as a substitute during a match against Birmingham City on August 28 because the club failed to correctly upload required Home Office right-to-work documentation. O’Hare was included as an unused substitute in a match against Millwall on September 2, but his registration was not completed before the eligibility deadline.
The club, owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, reached an agreed decision with the EFL and stated it is taking steps to prevent future occurrences, including strengthening administrative processes and hiring a club secretary.
