Wrexham rail services face closures for engineering works

Network Rail has announced essential engineering works and closures affecting rail services in Wrexham from Sunday, 16 August, to Sunday, 30 August. The work includes structural repairs to the Hawarden swing bridge, track replacement, and improvements at locations frequently impacted by flooding near Gobowen and Babbinswood.

Specific service disruptions include:

• Between Wrexham General/Central and Bidston: No trains will run from 16 August to 30 August. Rail replacement buses will operate approximately every 45 minutes on weekdays and Saturdays, and hourly on Sundays. These buses will also serve Birkenhead North for Merseyrail connections.

• Between Wrexham General and Shrewsbury: No trains will run from 17 August to 30 August. Services between Crewe and Wrexham General will operate roughly hourly. Replacement buses will run every hour on weekdays and Saturdays, and up to every two hours on Sundays, with some services extending to Chester.

Long-distance services between North Wales and Cardiff will be diverted via Crewe, which may result in longer travel times.
