Wrigley Field volleyball debut ends in match suspension

The inaugural Big Ten/SEC Volleyball Challenge Week saw its historic debut at Wrigley Field in Chicago, though the event ended in disruption. The doubleheader featured high-profile matchups, including Kentucky defeating Penn State in four sets.

However, the second match between No. 1 Nebraska and Missouri was suspended due to excessive moisture on the court. High humidity levels, exceeding 80 percent, caused the TeraFlex floor to become slick, leading to player slips. Despite attempts by staff to dry the surface using towels and battery-powered blowers, the conditions remained unsafe.

Nebraska coach Dani Busboom Kelly noted the difficulty of the conditions, stating, “There’s a reason our sport’s indoors.” The event drew a sellout crowd of over 43,000 fans to the iconic baseball stadium.
