Writer Óscar Amorim presents literary journey through future visions

Writer Óscar Amorim has presented a unique theatrical performance titled ‘Uma viagem pela vida através dos livros’ (A journey through life through books). Rather than a conventional book presentation, the event features Amorim and Soares performing as two elderly characters, Albano and Jeremias.

Through improvised conversation, the characters discuss themes from Amorim’s novels, including ‘O Último Suspiro de Liberdade’ and ‘Memórias da Anaísa’. The performance explores the intersection of fiction and reality, specifically referencing the 1978 Israeli invasion of southern Lebanon and a fictionalized 2087 Europe marked by political extremism and social upheaval.

In the narrative of ‘Memórias da Anaísa’, the Iberian Peninsula is depicted as being transformed by a revolution in Madrid and the annexation of Portugal by Spain. The staging uses humor, memory, and readings to prompt reflection on how literary visions of the future mirror contemporary global tensions.
