Poland advances major road, rail and tunnel infrastructure projects
Subcontractors on the S19 Domaradz‑Iskrzynia segment have filed payment claims totaling about 16 million zł after the contract with Mostostal Warszawa was terminated; GDDKiA has already recovered over 30 million zł from guarantees. Opole will construct 1.55 km of pedestrian and bicycle paths near Niemodlińska and Wrocławska streets, funded by the EU Regional Development Fund and slated for completion by March 2028. Four gminas—Bałtów, Kunów, Bodzechów and Ćmielów—each received 164 thousand zł from the same fund to develop bicycle‑tourism infrastructure, with work expected this year. The western Szczecin bypass Odr tunnel will be about five kilometres long, part of an 8.3 billion zł investment, while the Fehmarnbelt submerged tunnel linking Denmark and Germany costs 7.5 billion euros and Polish firm Impostal is responsible for roughly 80 % of the welding work. The S11 expressway sections Kórnik‑Jarocina and Jarocina‑Ostrów Wielkopolski carry a combined estimated cost of around 5 billion zł, with opening planned for 2031. The Regional Cooperation Road (DWR) second stage will link Oświęcim with the A4 at Jeleń over roughly nine kilometres; documentation is budgeted at 8 million zł and an environmental decision is expected in Q1 2027. In Łódź, the high‑speed rail tunnel (KDP) will be 4.6 km long; a 215‑ton TBM shield has been lowered into the start chamber and drilling is set to begin in the first quarter of 2027. Other projects include road modernisation in Płock, temporary roadworks in Magdalenów, a bridge reconstruction in Pewla Mała (costing over 10 million zł) and the first asphalt laying on the Tychy velostrada bike path, a 73 million zł project funded largely by the EU.
