Wrocław implements new cemetery waste segregation rules

Starting September 1, municipal cemeteries managed by Wrocław will implement new waste segregation rules. Containers for glass and plastics will be relocated from cemetery paths to the vicinity of main entrances.

Bio-waste and mixed waste containers will remain along the paths. Bio-waste bins are intended for natural flowers, leaves, and plant parts, with specialized bags available at porter stations.

Items such as used candles, plastic inserts, artificial flowers, and wreaths must be disposed of in mixed waste bins. This change aims to facilitate proper segregation, reduce costs, and minimize the movement of heavy vehicles between gravesites. The city noted that cemetery decorations often consist of mixed materials—such as glass, plastic, metal, and paraffin—making them unsuitable for standard recycling.
