Wrocław officials seek stricter controls on electric micro-mobility
Authorities in Wrocław are addressing growing challenges caused by electric micro-mobility devices, such as e-scooters and electric bikes. Residents have reported issues including scooters blocking building entrances and riders traveling dangerously close to pedestrians.
A significant difficulty for enforcement services is distinguishing between standard bicycles and electric vehicles that do not meet legal requirements. While electric pedal-assist bicycles must have a continuous motor power not exceeding 250 W and assistance that cuts off at 25 km/h, many delivery vehicles resemble bicycles but operate via throttles without pedaling.
Currently, the city is removing obstacles from sidewalks, collecting reports, and pressuring rental operators. However, officials are calling for legislative changes to make it easier for services to inspect equipment and enforce usage rules, as verifying motor power and assistance limits is technically challenging during field inspections.
