Wrocław’s historic Młyn Maria retains inaccessible balconies after renovation

The 13th‑century Młyn Maria complex in central Wrocław has been fully refurbished, now housing 120 residential and service units. Developer Realco preserved the original technical balconies—red, lace‑like platforms that were part of the mill’s industrial fabric—following a conservator’s directive to showcase the building’s heritage.

These balconies have no doors or stairs, leading some residents to mistake them for a modern art installation. Historically, the platforms facilitated maintenance work, fire‑evacuation routes and service access to the façade. Realco’s spokesperson Agnieszka Piejak said the decision emphasizes the mill’s industrial past while complying with preservation requirements.
