Wärtsilä to supply 14 MW power plant for Senegal gold mine

Wärtsilä will supply five Wärtsilä 32 engines to power a 14 MW captive power plant for the Diamba Sud gold project in Senegal. The project is being developed by the Canadian company Fortuna Mining.

Because the mine is located in a remote, off-grid area, it will rely entirely on this plant for its energy needs. The order was placed by Africa Power Services (APS), a French-based contractor responsible for the engineering, procurement, and construction of the facility on behalf of Fortuna Mining.

The Wärtsilä 32 engines were selected for their reliability and fast-starting capabilities, which allow for the future integration of renewable energy sources like solar and wind into the micro-grid. The contract includes basic engineering, auxiliary equipment, and control and monitoring systems, with Wärtsilä providing advisory support during installation and commissioning. Equipment delivery is scheduled for March 2027, with the plant expected to be operational by the end of 2027.
