Wärtsilä to supply power plants for Ukraine via Finnish funding

The Finnish government is providing €28.5 million in development cooperation funds to support the reconstruction of Ukraine’s energy sector. This funding is part of a larger €46.5 million infrastructure project aimed at securing power generation for the Ukrainian state energy company, Ukrnafta.

Finnish company Wärtsilä Finland Oy has been selected to supply the power plant technology, which will be manufactured in Vaasa. The project is designed to bolster Ukraine’s energy security and maintain stable electricity production, which is critical as the country faces potential infrastructure damage during winter months.

The initiative is being implemented through the Finland-Ukraine Investment Fund (FUIF), which utilizes Finnish expertise and services to support public investments in Ukraine. Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Ville Tavio noted that the project strengthens Ukraine’s energy supply while simultaneously supporting Finnish exports and employment.
