Hungary faces wine industry losses and upcoming heatwave
The Hungarian wine industry is facing significant challenges due to a combination of spring frosts, prolonged drought, and the spread of grapevine diseases. Experts report that May frosts alone caused at least 30 billion forints in damage to the sector, with some regions experiencing near-total crop loss.
In terms of weather, the final week of August is expected to begin with moderate temperatures around 30 degrees Celsius and refreshing dawns. However, a heatwave is forecasted to return toward the end of the week, with temperatures potentially reaching up to 38 degrees Celsius by Friday. While some thunderstorms and showers are expected early in the week, particularly in western regions, the latter half of the week will see a return to intense heat before a cold front arrives over the weekend.
