WSJ editorial rebukes President Trump over attempt to suppress Air Force One story

The Wall Street Journal’s conservative editorial board condemned President Donald Trump for efforts to halt a New York Times report that said he switched from a Qatari‑gifted Air Force One to the traditional aircraft while returning from a summit in Turkey and traveling through the United Kingdom. The administration’s Justice Department subpoenaed the NYT reporters to compel source disclosure, a move the editors called harassment of the press.

The editorial argued the story benefited the president by reminding the public of ongoing threats from Iran and highlighted the contrast with former adviser John Bolton, who is facing prosecution for mishandling classified documents. It warned that such press intimidation does not make the United States safer and called for a fair handling of Bolton’s case.
