WSOP Drops Shot Clock for 2026 Main Event Final Table
The World Series of Poker (WSOP) introduced a 20‑second shot clock on Day 7 of the 2026 Main Event after a player spent 17 minutes deliberating on a crucial hand. The measure, intended to curb excessive tanking, allowed players six 30‑second extensions and could result in a dead hand if time expired.
Following player and staff feedback, the WSOP announced it will not use a shot clock at the upcoming final table. Players may still call a clock on opponents they deem to be stalling, and tournament officials retain the authority to intervene in “exceptional circumstances.” The organization said it reserves the right to re‑introduce the clock if needed, but the current goal is to provide a “natural playing environment” for the final‑table decisions.
The reversal has been welcomed by many players and fans, though the WSOP noted the change was made after discussions with participants and staff.
