WTA 500 Guadalajara tournament begins with key player victories

The WTA 500 tournament in Guadalajara, Mexico, has commenced with several notable results in the opening rounds.

Spanish player Cristina Bucsa advanced to the second round after defeating Bianca Andreescu in straight sets, 6-4 and 6-3. Bucsa is scheduled to face Panna Udvardy next. In other matches, American Taylor Townsend secured a spot in the round of 16 by overcoming Tatjana Maria with a comeback victory of 0-7, 6-3, and 6-2. Townsend will next compete against tournament favorite Marta Kostyuk.

Former US Open champion Sloane Stephens also moved forward in the tournament, defeating Carole Monnet 6-4 and 6-3. Other American players saw success, including Kayla Day, who defeated Elvina Kalieva, and Caroline Dolehide, who beat local player Renata Zarazua.
