WTA plans structural changes to address financial challenges
The Women's Tennis Association (WTA) is preparing a significant transformation of its commercial structure to overcome financial difficulties and foster growth within women's tennis. WTA President Valerie Camillo has identified 2026 as a transition year focused on financial discipline and the pursuit of new revenue streams.
Camillo acknowledged the challenges stemming from recent decisions, such as the short-notice relocation of the WTA Finals to Indian Wells. To stabilize the circuit, the organization aims to better leverage its assets, specifically the WTA Finals, which Camillo views as an undervalued commercial opportunity.
As part of this strategy, the 2027 WTA Finals will be held in Charlotte, North Carolina. The goal is to evolve the tournament into a larger event featuring fan activities, conferences, and side initiatives. The WTA has already secured a title sponsor for the Charlotte event shortly after presenting the project. Additional focus areas include attracting new investment, exploring audiovisual rights, and developing new business opportunities to ensure long-term sustainability and better conditions for players.
