WTA rankings: Sabalenka leads as Rybakina eyes number 1 spot

As the US Open 2026 approaches, the WTA women's singles rankings show a tight race for the number one spot. Aryna Sabalenka currently holds the top position with 8,575 points. Elena Rybakina, ranked second with 8,141 points, has a significant opportunity to claim the top ranking if she reaches the tournament semifinals, depending on Sabalenka's results.

Sabalenka is also aiming for a historic third consecutive US Open title, a feat previously achieved by Serena Williams and Chris Evert. Meanwhile, Rybakina is working to recover from a heel injury sustained during the Cincinnati Open quarterfinals on August 21, which forced her to withdraw from that event.

In the men's rankings, Jannik Sinner maintains the number one position with 12,800 points. In doubles, Harri Heliövaara and Henry Patten hold the top spot.
