Dominican Republic freezes fuel prices, allocates $1.37 bn subsidy

The Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs (MICM) announced that gasoline, diesel, LPG and natural gas will keep their prices unchanged for the week of 1 – 7 August 2026. Despite the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude price staying above US$85 per barrel and briefly exceeding US$92, the government will provide a subsidy of RD$1.369 billion for that week, bringing total 2026 fuel subsidies close to RD$25 billion.

The subsidy per gallon is RD$93.35 for regular diesel, RD$84.09 for optimal diesel, RD$52.27 for regular gasoline, RD$26.77 for premium gasoline and RD$17.82 for LPG. Prices that remain unchanged are: premium gasoline RD$338.10/gal, regular gasoline RD$302.50/gal, regular diesel RD$254.80/gal, optimal diesel RD$290.10/gal, LPG RD$135.20/gal and natural gas RD$43.97 per m³. Avtur rises RD$8.41 to RD$292.27/gal, kerosene RD$8.60 to RD$331.00/gal, fuel‑oil #6 RD$0.06 to RD$169.60/gal and fuel‑oil 1 % S RD$3.34 to RD$199.77/gal. The exchange rate used for the calculations was RD$58.56 per US dollar.
