WTTC Global Summit in Malta focuses on tourism growth and geopolitics
The 26th World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) Global Summit concluded in Malta, bringing together over 1,000 participants, including 200 CEOs and government leaders. The summit focused on key industry drivers such as investment, connectivity, artificial intelligence, and sustainable growth.
A WTTC study presented at the event projects that travel and tourism will grow by 3.1% in Europe and 2.5% globally by 2026, outperforming the broader economy. Discussions also covered luxury travel, longevity, and the future of airport experiences.
Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau served as a keynote speaker, emphasizing tourism as an antidote to global isolationism. Trudeau warned that geopolitical tensions and isolationist trends can damage a nation's reputation and attractiveness to travelers. He advocated for tourism as a tool for international cooperation and empathy, noting that easing travel restrictions, such as visa removals, can strengthen diplomatic and commercial ties.
