WUF from Bruges wins European Beach Ultimate Club Championship
The Bruges-based women's team WUF has become the European champion of beach ultimate frisbee. Competing in the European Beach Ultimate Club Championships in Figueira da Foz, Portugal, the team secured the title with a 12-10 victory in the final against the defending champions, jinX midnight from Germany.
This marks the first time a Belgian team has won this title. Despite entering the tournament as the tenth seed among fifteen teams, WUF won all of their matches. The squad consists entirely of players from Bruges with an average age of approximately 18 years. Notably, the team operated without a coach or professional guidance, managing their own tactics, lineups, and meals throughout the competition.
The tournament, held from October 16 to 18, was the largest edition to date, featuring 63 teams from 21 countries. In other divisions, the Portuguese team UFA won the mixed division, and the French team Iznogood took the Open division title.
