Wuhan construction site uncovers large black wood object

During geological surveys for the construction of Metro Line 5 in Wuhan, China, workers discovered a black wooden object buried approximately 35.8 meters underground. The discovery occurred near the entrance of Siyu New Village on Peace Avenue in the Wuchang District.

The object, measuring about 1.9 meters in length, was initially suspected to be rare agarwood, often referred to as ‘Oriental Mystical Wood,’ due to its dark color and light fragrance. The discovery caused an emergency halt to construction as authorities and experts were called to inspect the site.

However, Ye Lixin, head of the rosewood professional committee of the Wuhan Collectors Association, inspected the sample and concluded that the object was not rare agarwood, but rather a piece of ordinary wood that had been buried underground for a long period.
