Wuhan Hospital MRI Neglect Leaves Patient Trapped for Six Hours
A patient at Tongji Hospital in Wuhan, Hubei province, was inadvertently left inside an MRI scanner for nearly six hours after staff completed the examination and left the area during a shift change. The man was discovered the following morning by a cleaning worker who noticed someone still in the imaging room. He suffered no physical injuries, but the incident raised serious concerns about patient‑safety protocols.
The hospital confirmed the event, suspended the involved personnel, and launched an internal investigation to determine responsibility. Hospital officials said they are in continuous contact with the patient’s family to arrange compensation and are reviewing all imaging‑room procedures to prevent a recurrence.
