Wuling Mercedes-Benz illegal parking case referred to prosecutors
During the National Day holiday, a Mercedes-Benz C300 illegally parked on a narrow road in Wuling, Hehuanshan, caused significant traffic congestion, blocking hundreds of vehicles. While the driver eventually moved the vehicle after being contacted via a phone number left on the windshield, the incident sparked public outcry regarding the lack of immediate penalties.
Initially, police stated they could not issue a standard traffic citation because the vehicle had already departed by the time officers arrived. However, following public criticism, the Renai Police Precinct announced they are investigating whether the driver’s actions constitute a violation of Article 185 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to the crime of obstructing public passage and endangering safety. The police are currently collecting evidence and will refer the case to the district prosecutor's office for further investigation.
