Wunstorf Air Base drone debris discovery triggers federal investigation

The German Federal Prosecutor's Office is investigating the discovery of drone debris near the Wunstorf Air Base in Lower Saxony. Investigators believe a custom-built drone may have crashed in the area, breaking into several pieces.

Security sources indicate the object was not a standard commercial drone but featured custom components, including parts that may have been 3D-printed. While no explosive traces were found, the construction bears similarities to a drone equipped with explosives discovered at Leipzig/Halle Airport in August.

Due to the location near a strategic military site and the technical nature of the aircraft, authorities are examining whether the incident constitutes a Russian espionage attempt. The Federal Prosecutor's Office confirmed it is looking into potential links between this find and the previous incident in Leipzig.
