Wunstorf Air Base: Explosives suspected after drone discovery
German authorities are investigating the discovery of a drone and suspicious material near the Wunstorf Air Base in Lower Saxony. The site is a strategic military hub housing the Bundeswehr's A400M transport fleet.
Investigators have found traces of explosives near the crash site, which is located approximately one kilometer from the military installation. The drone itself appears to be a custom-built model rather than a commercial product, with at least one component reportedly manufactured using a 3D printer. Preliminary analysis suggests the aircraft may have been in the vicinity of the military site for up to two years.
The Federal Prosecutor General and the Federal Criminal Police Office have taken over the investigation. Authorities are exploring a potential connection to a previous incident in early August involving a suspected explosive-laden drone at Leipzig/Halle Airport. The investigation is being treated as a high-priority security matter.
