Wuppertal completes tree maintenance at Barmen town hall

The city of Wuppertal has completed essential tree maintenance on the parking lot behind the town hall in the Barmen district. Following an expert assessment commissioned after a lime tree fell in the town hall forecourt earlier this year, specialized pruning was conducted to ensure the long-term stability and health of the plane trees.

The pruning was necessary because the tree crowns had become too large for the available root space. The city's urban tree management team executed the reduction of the crowns according to specific percentage guidelines provided in the expert report. The goal was to balance tree preservation with traffic safety while maintaining the natural appearance of the trees.

Carsten Gnipp, head of the urban tree management team, noted that the work required high levels of expertise to ensure the correct cutting technique for long-term health. The administration stated that the measures were successful, as the cuts are nearly invisible and the trees are now considered stable for the long term.
