Wuppertal court expects verdict in massive weapons trafficking case

A verdict is expected in Wuppertal following a high-profile trial involving one of Germany's largest recent discoveries of war weapons. A 60-year-old master mechanic from Remscheid has entered a plea deal, admitting to trading 70 Skorpion submachine guns.

During a police raid last October, authorities uncovered four hidden weapon chambers within the man's automotive workshop. The facility featured secret doors, concealed rooms behind partition walls, and hidden locking mechanisms. Investigators seized approximately 300 live firearms and nearly 100,000 rounds of ammunition, alongside various explosives and World War II decorative weapons.

Under the terms of the legal agreement, the defendant faces a prison sentence of between six and seven years. While the defendant claimed to be a harmless weapons collector, the prosecution described the case as a major arms trafficking operation. Wuppertal Police President Markus Röhrl noted the unprecedented scale of the find during the investigation.
