Wuppertal expands childcare staffing and school capacity

The city of Wuppertal is reporting significant progress in its educational and childcare infrastructure as the new school year begins. The municipal administration has hired 75 new staff members for city-run daycare centers since the start of the year, including many young professionals and career changers. This recruitment has resulted in a net increase of 40 specialists, helping to compensate for vacancies caused by retirement and parental leave.

In addition to staffing improvements, the city is managing a large influx of students. Approximately 3,000 children are entering daycare centers for the first time, while 3,000 fifth-graders are starting at municipal schools. The city is also providing nearly 7,900 places in after-school care programs (OGS) as part of its ‘Bildungsoffensive 2035’ initiative, which focuses on modernizing and renovating educational facilities to ensure equal opportunities for all children.
