Wuppertaler Stadtwerke upgrades drinking water transport pipelines

Wuppertaler Stadtwerke (WSW) has completed the replacement of shut-off valves on a drinking water transport pipeline in Wuppertal. The work, conducted at Bendahler Straße and Oberbergische Straße, involved replacing old shut-off valves in one-meter-thick pipes.

The new shut-off devices feature a bypass mechanism, allowing for faster pressure equalization on both sides of the valve during the reactivation of the line. This upgrade is intended to make the drinking water supply more secure and flexible, facilitating easier repairs on downstream pipe sections.

Maintaining these large transport lines is a complex process due to high pressure and flow speeds. The procedure requires fully draining the pipes and conducting thorough water quality inspections before service is restored to consumers.
