Wuxi Symphony Orchestra performs in Italy

The Wuxi Symphony Orchestra performed in Tuscania, Italy, as part of the Tuscania Summer Festival 2026. The concert, organized by the non-profit association The Arts Crossroad, featured approximately 70 musicians performing for over 200 spectators.

The repertoire blended Chinese musical elements with Western orchestral traditions. A central piece was ‘Flying Apsaras’, an original symphonic suite composed by musical director Li Shaosheng. The work explores themes of human curiosity, space exploration, and China’s advancements in aerospace technology. The performance included traditional Chinese suona solos and vocal contributions from tenor Xue Haoyin to emphasize Chinese identity.

In addition to the original suite, the orchestra performed Western classical works, including Giuseppe Verdi’s ‘I Vespri siciliani’ and Johannes Brahms’ ‘Symphony No. 1’. Wu Ximing, president of the Wuxi Symphony Orchestra Co., Ltd., stated that the inclusion of traditional elements was intended to help international audiences better understand the cultural messages within the music.
