WVU defensive coordinator Zac Alley demands better unit communication

West Virginia University defensive coordinator Zac Alley has emphasized the urgent need for improved communication within the Mountaineers' defensive unit. Despite a recent 52-7 victory over UT Martin, Alley noted that the defense has been too quiet on the field, which could lead to failure against more challenging opponents.

Alley expressed concern that the unit must move beyond relying on a few players in the back end to handle all verbal cues. He stressed that players need to communicate more proactively, especially when facing offensive motions or formation changes, to ensure everyone understands their specific assignments and roles. The coaching staff aims to achieve greater consistency and defensive dominance on every down as the season progresses.
