WWE champion Sol Ruca admits tryout promo doubts before earning contract

WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion Sol Ruca said she almost doubted passing her WWE tryout because of the promo portion. She recalled her first attempt as a simple introduction: “Hey guys, my name’s Calyx and I’m from California, and I went to school here and I did this,” and admitted she thought, “I don’t know what I’m doing.” After a second, more polished promo, WWE officials were impressed with her in‑ring work and improvement, and offered her a contract.

Ruca later cut a promo on then‑champion Becky Lynch during the tryout and eventually defeated Lynch for her first Intercontinental title on the main roster. A live‑event match in Birmingham saw Ruca involved in an accidental injury to champion Liv Morgan, sparking backlash on social media, after which she set her X account to private.
