WWE granted extension to oppose Spike Dudley trademark
WWE has been granted a 90-day extension by the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board to decide whether to oppose a trademark application filed by Matthew Hyson, known professionally as Spike Dudley. The extension, granted on September 25, provides the company until December 23 to file a formal opposition.
Hyson filed the application on May 13, 2026, specifically covering the use of the name ‘Spike Dudley’ for action figures. This differs from a 2005 attempt by Hyson to trademark the name for wrestling services, which was refused due to WWE’s existing ‘Dudley Boyz’ registration and subsequently abandoned by Hyson in 2007.
Hyson, 56, is a retired professional wrestler who competed in WWE from 2001 to 2005. During his tenure, he held several titles, including the Cruiserweight, European, and Hardcore Championships. He has since transitioned into the financial services industry.
