WWE Speed Championships retired following NXT unification
WWE has officially retired the Speed Championships following a unification match on NXT. During a segment on Tuesday's episode, Zaria chose to retain the Women’s North American Championship while relinquishing the Speed title. Following this decision, General Manager Robert Stone announced that the men’s Speed Championship would also become inactive.
Lexis King relinquished the men’s title before leaving the ring, effectively ending the era of Speed matches. The decision follows Zaria’s victory over Wren Sinclair at NXT Heatwave, a match that also included Kali Armstrong, to unify the titles.
The Speed titles originated with the short-form program ‘Speed’ on X, which premiered in April 2024. After the original show was discontinued, the championships were transitioned to NXT, where they were defended regularly through tournaments and subsequent matches.
