WWE updates Women’s Championship history
WWE has retroactively updated its official championship history regarding the WWE Women’s Championship. The company has effectively ended Rhea Ripley’s title reign, which is now recorded as lasting 104 days, ending on August 2, 2024.
Previously, Chelsea Green was recognized as the Interim WWE Women’s Champion after winning a ladder match at SummerSlam. This interim status was intended to hold the title until Ripley’s return from a knee injury sustained in May. However, WWE has quietly removed the interim designation from its official records and match results. Chelsea Green is now listed as the regular WWE Women’s Champion, with her reign dating back to her victory at SummerSlam.
While there has been no formal on-screen explanation during WWE television programming to strip Ripley of the title, the change in official documentation and wording in recent SmackDown results indicates a shift in the championship's lineage to create a more continuous history.
