WWF Intercontinental Championship belt sells for record $716,750
A red-letter WWF Intercontinental Championship belt has set a new record as the most valuable wrestling title ever sold, fetching $716,750 at a Heritage Auctions sale on October 24. The sale surpasses the previous record of $414,800 held by Hulk Hogan’s 1986 WWF World Championship.
Owned by podcaster Conrad Thompson, the belt is historically significant due to its use between 1985 and 1988. During this period, the title was held by prominent wrestlers including Tito Santana, Randy ‘Macho Man’ Savage, Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat, and The Honky Tonk Man.
The belt is particularly noted for its connection to the landmark match between Randy Savage and Ricky Steamboat at WrestleMania III. Although Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant headlined the event, the Savage versus Steamboat bout is widely regarded by fans and historians as one of the greatest matches in professional wrestling history.
