WWII grenade discovered in Rivello, Italy; bomb squad safely removes device

In the town of Rivello in the province of Potenza, Italy, a farmer uncovered a World War II artillery grenade while plowing a private field. The local Carabinieri station responded immediately, securing the area and coordinating with the Potenza Prefecture.

Specialists from the Carabinieri Artificers unit assessed the grenade’s condition, carried out its removal and subsequently detonated it in an abandoned quarry within the same municipality. The operation concluded without injuries or property damage, and the area was declared safe.

Authorities reiterated the safety advice to avoid handling suspicious objects and to contact emergency services (112) promptly for professional assistance.
