Wynonna Judd discusses late mother Naomi’s mental health struggles
Singer Wynonna Judd has shared details regarding her late mother Naomi Judd’s mental health battles prior to her death in April 2022. In an interview on the ‘All There Is With Anderson Cooper’ podcast, Wynonna stated that Naomi spoke frequently about death and suicide in the period leading up to her passing.
Wynonna noted that Naomi discussed these thoughts with her, her sister Ashley Judd, and even her grandson. The singer recalled spending nights at her mother’s home to provide support during difficult moments. Naomi Judd died by a self-inflicted gunshot wound at her Tennessee home at age 76, just one day before her and Wynonna’s scheduled induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Naomi’s struggles with depression were documented for years; in 2016, she had publicly discussed her ‘life-threatening depression.’ Her final years involved managing various medical conditions, including insomnia and seizures.
